Wildlife market in China is mainly for traditional Chinese medicines (TCM), ornamentals, pets, and food. Especially, TCM and food use demands involve a small numbers of species but in a great quantity, that drives the trades of wildlife in China.

Wildlife Trades and Species Conservation


China imports and exports wildlife and derivatives involve about 100 species listed in CITES. Different from survival exploitation as livelihoods, commercial exploitation on wildlife resources is driven by profits from trades, which is usually unsustainable and crazy. In spite of habitats loss, many endangered species are mainly threaten by such trades.

To Meet The Demand of Wildlife Products


In East Asia, especially in China, using wildlife as medicines or nutrient food is already a part of culture and tradition, so that trades derived from the demand of wildlife products are difficult to be totally banned or reversed. To avoid such demands threatening species, alternative choices must be given, such as cultivation, breeding and substitute.

After all, consumers with their consuming trends are the most essential factors that promote the trade. Therefore, consumers should be aware that their action in the market effecting greatly on wild species survival as well as the environment. Consumers should also undertake the responsibility of species and their surviving environment, while they are taking kinds of benefits from nature resources and ecosystem services.
